Operation Christmas Child Northern MI

November 16, 2009 - 05:51 a.m. EST

Operation Christmas Child Northern Michigan is starting to collect donations this week, to help children around the world.

The program has been bringing joy and hope to children in desperate situations since 1993 through gift-filled shoe boxes. More than 61-million shoe boxes have been packed, shipped, and delivered across the globe.

“Last year our northern Michigan region packed and shipped over 25,000 boxes. We hope to exceed that goal this year,” said Dianna DeYoung, Operation Christmas Team Leader for Northern Michigan.

Shoeboxes should be standard size and can be filled with any combination of items such as personal hygiene items, toys, school supplies and more. In addition, a $7 donation for shipping the box is encouraged.

Collection centers are being temporarily set up at various churches across the region. For a list of drop off locations and dates and times, visit www.samaritanspurse.org/.
