Alpena County has reached a tentative deal with the Park Family Foundation for a new security camera system at Northern Lights Arena.

The county learned the hard way that the current surveillance system is not working properly, following a July burglary at the ice rink.

Under the terms of the deal with the Park Family Foundation, which manages Northern Lights Arena for the county, the two parties will split the approximate $3,400 cost of a new system.

Future repairs or parts for the system will also be shared equally.  And, if the Park Family Foundation ceases it managerial duties at the rink, the camera system will become sole property of the county.

The agreement must still be approved by the full board of commissioners.

Police are still looking for the person or persons who broke into the facility.  The thief or thieves stole cash out of a couple of pop machines but did not destroy anything permanent inside the building.  A safe and an ATM machine were also damaged but no money was taken.
