Ellen Alice Meddaugh, 80, of Alpena died Friday August 17, 2012 at Tendercare Green View surrounded by her loving family.

Ellen was born February 16, 1932 in Wilson Township to Frederick and Anna Marie (Diemond) Leeck and had been a life-long resident of the Alpena area.  She married James J. Meddaugh on March 3, 1950 in Alpena at St. Anne Catholic Church.  He preceded her in death on September 25, 2008.  She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, its Alter Guild, the VFW Post #2496 Ladies Auxiliary and the Cooties and had been employed for many years by Alpena Public Schools as a custodian and driving a bus.  An excellent cook, Ellen was known for her homemade bread, enjoyed her flower garden and playing cards with family and friends.  She never met a stranger, as she had that uncanny ability to establish a close relationship with family and friends.  A loving individual with a caring heart, Ellen will be missed by the many lives she touched.

Surviving are her six children; James (Elaine) Meddaugh of Alpena, Gerald (Gail) Meddaugh of Ossineke, Margo (Larry) Hencye of Ft. Wayne, IN, Anna (Raymond) Dubie of Frankfort, IL, Peggy (Douglas) Huiting of Alpena, John (Lori) Meddaugh of Traverse City, 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, two sisters; Shirley Zimmer of Pennsylvania,  and Janet(Arleigh) Smith of Alpena.  She was preceded in death by three sisters; Bessie Egalski, Anna Hubbard, Evelyn Grablick and six brothers; Clarence, Wilbert, Frederick, Gordon, Ervin, and Elmer Leeck.

Ellen Meddaugh is at McWilliams Funeral Home – Alpena where friends may call on Sunday from 2:00-8:00 pm and on Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church from 10:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 am with Rev. James Erickson officiating.  Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.  Memorial donations may be made to the Rev. Gerhardt Luebke Scholarship Fund.  Please visit Ellen’s personal web page at www.lifestorynet.com where you may share a memory or sign the on-line guest book.
