A motorist is facing multiple charges after leaving the scene of a hit and run accident in downtown Alpena.

The suspect was allegedly drunk and left the Dry Dock Bar at closing early Sunday morning, when they caused a minor accident in the parking lot across the street.

Witnesses saw the accident and alerted police that the suspect had fled the scene and was last seen driving north on Chisholm Street.

Officers caught up to the suspect who was swerving down the road and ran the flashing red light at Chisholm before turning left onto Long Rapids Road.

The driver was subsequently stopped and arrested for operating while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.  The suspect was also cited for not having valid proof of insurance.
