A young man who attempted to break into the Alpena Sportmen’s Club is spending the next year behind bars.

Several young men attempted to break into the club in August, 2011, but tripped an alarm before they got inside and fled the scene.

Last week, 18 year-old Damien Smith was sentenced to one year in the county jail for his role in that crime.

Another one of the suspects, 19 year-old Aaron Phillips recently rejected an offer to settle his case and is currently demanding a trial.

Prosecutor Ed Black credits Michigan State Police troopers Robert Mitchell and Chris Wicklund with apprehending the suspects.
