Gov. Snyder signs Pettalia bill into law
Earlier this week, Governor Rick Snyder signed into law a bill sponsored by 106th State Representative Peter Pettalia that streamlines the inspecting and permitting process for non-motorized watercraft.
Pettalia, a Republican from Presque Isle, authored House Bill 5164, which is now Public Act 249 of 2012 that cuts the processing time for a boat livery permit from 150 to 30 days and also excludes kayaks and canoes from yearly state inspections.
“This process was costing boat livery owners and county sheriff departments money that could be better spent on providing essential services”, Pettalia said.
During his tenure, Pettalia has had a hand in four new laws carrying Governor Snyder’s signature that are designed to protect the elderly and also one that aims to protect Michigan’s natural resources and promote youth hunting conservation.
