Early this morning, officers from the Alpena Police Department arrested a man on parole on multiple charges.

Authorities began investigating a report of a hit and run accident at Naylor’s Bar in Alpena’s west end shortly after 1:00 a.m. when they received a second call that a similar vehicle ran into a mailbox on First Avenue near Addison Street.

When officers arrived at the second location, they found the vehicle stuck on the mailbox post and the highly intoxicated driver trying to free it with the use of his car jack.

The driver, released on parole the previous day, told investigators he had just left a bar and was reading a text message when the car left the roadway, hit the mailbox and perched on its post.

The man was taken into custody and lodged in the Alpena County Jail on charges of operating while intoxicated, driving while license is suspended and hit and run accident.
