The Michigan State Police post in Alpena will join other law enforcement agencies across the state, in a campaign to crackdown on drunk drivers over the 4th of July holiday.

The Alpena post has received additional federal dollars to participate in the ‘Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest’ campaign.

Beginning Sunday and continuing through the following Sunday, July 8, motorists can expect to see an increase in the number of state police patrolling area roads.

“Drunk driving is simply not worth the risk,” said post commander F/Lt. Mike Hahn.  “Law enforcement officers will be out on the road, and we will be watching.  If we see you driving drunk we will stop and arrest you.  No questions asked.  No second chances.”

In 2011, 319 people died in Michigan as a result of alcohol and/or drug involved traffic crashes, a nearly 11 percent increase from 2010.
