Alpena citizens ask – where’s the water meters?
There has been a delay in the installation of new waters meters across the City of Alpena.
The installation process is now expected to begin sometime in July or maybe August.
Engineer Rich Sullenger has been told it took longer than expected to reach an agreement between the meter supplier and United Water – the city’s water and sewer management company.
Sullenger has also been told the first order of meters has been placed. He says a public information meeting will be held prior to the start of installation so property owners know what to expect.
A date for the public meeting has not been scheduled.
The new meters are replacing older models that in many cases no longer accurately read how much water is being used. The new meters are guaranteed to be 98 percent accurate for 20 years.
United Water has hired some local contractors to help in the installation process. The meters will be rolled out in phases to specific areas of the city. That schedule has not yet been released.
