Norris Valentine Doyle II
Norris Valentine Doyle II, 89, of Alpena, formerly of Presque Isle, MI died Saturday April 21, 2012.
Norris was born in Presque Isle on May 17, 1922 to Stanton and Mabel (King) Doyle and except for time in the US Navy during WWII was a life-long resident of the area. He enlisted in the Navy at 19 and was a 1st Class Metal Smith and was a “Tin Can Sailor” as they were known to be called. He married Ruth Mildred Barrow on February 27, 1945 in Denver, CO. After the war they made their home at Grand Lake. He retired from Presque Isle Corporation, was one of the founders of the East Grand Lake Fire Department and a 32nd Degree Mason with membership at Alpena-Hopper lodge #199. A cheerful and friendly man, Norris will be deeply missed by the many lives he touched.
Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Ruth, a daughter; Bonnie (Tim) Mahar of Plano, TX and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter; Susan Bunting, a sister, Ruth and three brothers; Ray, Robert, & Jack.
Family and friends will gather on Thursday May 3, 2012 at Grand Lake Community Chapel from 1:00 pm until the time of the memorial service at 2:00 pm with Rev. Robert Case officiating. The family chose McWilliams Funeral Home – Alpena to assist them. Memorial donations may be made to Grand Lake Community Chapel.
