Tip from Oregon leads to arrest of Alpena man
PRESS RELEASE FROM HURON UNDERCOVER NARCOTICS TEAM:
On 04-19-12 detectives from the Huron Undercover Narcotics Team arrested a 30 year old Alpena man on charges of Conspiracy to Possess Marijuana With Intent to Deliver, Manufacturing Marij-uana, Maintaining a Drug House, and Operating Under the Influence of Drugs.
HUNT detectives began a week long investigation after being contacted by a drug interdiction team from the State of Oregon who advised they had intercepted a package containing multiple pounds of marijuana that was intended to be delivered to the Alpena area.
HUNT detectives further learned the suspect(s) had used a false name on the shipping label, and had actually used the name of an innocent local citizen in an attempt to thwart identification by law enforcement.
HUNT detectives were able to eliminate the local citizen as being Involved and were then able to identify the actual suspect.
After arresting the suspect, HUNT detectives executed a search warrant at the suspect’s house and located a marijuana grow room within the residence. Detectives were also able to establish the identity of the suspect in Oregon who shipped the marijuana through the mail to the Alpena suspect., which in and of itself is a violation of Federal law.
HUNT detectives are currently assisting Oregon authorities as their investigation continues to develop. HUNT detectives were assisted on scene by the Alpena Police Department.
