Edward Michael Schultz age 66 of Clare, formerly of Rogers City
Passed away March 27, 2012 in Savannah, Georgia while traveling the Southern States.
He was born March 15, 1946 in Alpena to Edward and Eleanore (Muszynski) Schultz
Ed graduated from Rogers City Area Schools in 1964, attended Central Michigan University for his Bachelor’s and Specialist degrees in Education, received a Master’s degree in Science Education from University of Wisconsin Superior, and completed all but dissertation for a PhD in Educational Leadership from Western Michigan University. On June 21, 1969, Ed married Barbara Richmond at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Freeland, Michigan. Mr. Schultz started his career in education at the Reese Public Schools where he taught science and math, he then taught physics and science at Sault Ste. Marie High School, then Principal at Rudyard High School, Ed went on to take the position of Superintendent for the Stephenson School District, then Webberville School District, finally Assistant Superintendent at Clare County ISD where he retired. He took an interim position as Superintendent for the Rogers City School District which added 4 additional years to his career in education. Mr. Schultz enjoyed history, science, reading, golfing, hunting, fishing, boating, camping, and working with young people. He was a Boy Scout Troop Leader, a member of the Optimist Club, and the Lions Club. Ed was intrigued by anything mechanical and could fix what ever needed to be fixed.
Mr. Schultz is survived by his wife, Barbara; 4 children, Leslie Schultz of Clare, Erin Schultz of Long Island, New York, Kylie (Brian Horvitz) Schultz of Kalamazoo, and Michael Schultz of Lansing; mother, Eleanore Schultz of Rogers City; sister, Jane (Dave) Jacobs of Rogers City and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Max Schultz.
Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 3rd from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. with the parish wake service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on Wednesday at St. Ignatius Catholic Church from 10:00 a.m. until time of mass at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Arthur Duchnowicz officiating. A memorial service is planned at the Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home in Clare on Saturday, April 14th at 1:30 p.m.
Burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery in Rogers City at a later date.
