Lawrence John “Bunny” Smigelski
Lawrence John “Bunny” Smigelski, 84, of Gaylord formerly of Alpena passed away Thursday, July 28, 2011 at Tendercare – Gaylord.
Bunny was born in Alpena on August 29, 1926 to the late John and Clara (Shalla) Smigelski and married the former Rose Dziesinski on August 25, 1951. She preceded him in death on December 6, 1992. Larry served in the United States Army during WWII. Along with his brother Jack, they owned and operated New Era Chip before his employment with the City of Alpena until his retirement in 1988.
Mr. Smigelski was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.
Surviving are his son Ricky and his wife Kelli Smigelski; granddaughter, Rosalyn; sister, Margo and her husband Gary Ilsley; and a sister in law, Leanora Smigelski.
Mr. Smigelski was preceded in death by a son David; a daughter, Ann Marie and a brother John “Jack” Smigelski.
Mr. Smigelski is at the Bannan Funeral Home where friends may call on Sunday from 2 – 8 p.m. with a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church from 10 a.m. until time of funeral mass at 11 a.m. with Rev. Gerald Okoli officiating. Full military honors will be accorded him on Sunday at 6 p.m. by VFW Alpena Post 2496 at the funeral home.
