Lillian A. Manning
Lillian A. Manning, 91, of Alpena passed away Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Back Home Care Home.
Lillian A. Lewis was born February 12, 1920 to the late George and Florence (Rea) Lewis and married Fredrick Manning on July 2, 1939 at the Greely Baptist Parsonage. He preceded her in death on October 28, 1999.
Mrs. Manning taught school for 26 years until she became a reading consultant for 6 years, retiring in 1976. She graduated from Central Michigan University earning a Bachelor of Science degree in education, a Master of Arts degree in administration and an educational specialist in reading. She was listed in Who’s Who Biographical Record – Child Development Professionals and the World Who’s Who of Women. Lillian served on the Alpena General Hospital Board. On June 2, 1988 she received the Distinguished Service Award from the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel in Lansing Michigan.
She is survived by 2 daughters; Linda Kleitch of Florida, Judith (Kenneth) Jones of Lachine; 1 son, George of Alpena; 4 grandchildren, Kevin (Naomi) Manning, Brian (Megan) Jones, Jennifer (Chris) VanVoorst, Kendra (David) Booth; 7 great grandchildren, Fredrick Manning, Harrison Jones, Sadie Jones, Trevor VanVoorst, Justin VanVoorst, Jack Booth, Nathan Booth; and 1 sister, Murriel Kearly of Alpena.
Mrs. Manning was preceded in death by an infant son, Bruce; 2 brothers, George Lewis, Thomas Lewis; 3 sisters, Margaret Klein, Constance MacArthur, Ada Nugent.
Mrs. Manning is at the Bannan Funeral Home where friends may call on Thursday from 2 – 8 p.m. and where the funeral service will take place on Friday at 11 a.m. with Elder Lynn Field officiating.
Interment: Evergreen Cemetery
