City signs on to MORE Program
The City of Alpena has signed on to a statewide program that will provide important business-related information to entrepreneurs.
The municipal council recently agreed to a memorandum of understanding with the Matching Opportunities and Resources for Entrepreneurs Program (MORE), which is a non-profit organization funded through the U.S. Department of Labor.
Funds from the More Program are being used to set up a Statewide Entrepreneurship Support System (SESS), a software process to collect and disseminate entrepreneur support mechanisms.
Basically, communities that sign up for the program agree to provide access to programs, materials and services that will benefit entrepreneurs. All of the materials collected will then be put into the system and made available to entrepreneurs looking for opportunities in Michigan.
“It sounds like a really neat opportunity,” said Mayor Carol Shafto, who also noted there is no cost for the city to participate in the process, except for staff time to assemble the necessary information.
