Grace was born July 28, 1921 in Alpena to Gus and Emma (Baumgart)Hasse and had been a life-long resident of the Alpena area.  She married Harvey Olsen on March 2, 1940 at Salem Lutheran Church in Detroit.  He preceded her in death on January 9, 1999. She was a very active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, the ladies circle, teaching a number of classes, preparing various church dinners and helping wherever needed.  Grace and Harvey built their home together, learning as they progressed, enjoying the entire construction process.  She was an avid gardener, both flower and vegetables, and canned many things from her garden.  This was something she really looked forward to in the spring, when she returned from spending the winter in Ann Arbor, MI.  Harvey and Grace enjoyed travelling with their children and grandchildren, spending many a vacation in the tropics.  Nana taught her children and grandchildren many lessons in life that they will value forever.  She was generous with her love, time and honesty; she knew the value of a dollar as did many of her generation.

Surviving are a daughter; Linda of Ann Arbor, a son; David (Priscilla) of Saline, MI, nine grandchildren; Jonathan (Meg), Melissa, Stefanie (Jordan) Trevor, Paul, Ann, Tim, Chris, Cindy, five great-grandchildren; Luke, Eric, Rylie, Matthew, Amanda, a sister-in-law; Lucille Hasse, many nieces and nephews who were a continual source of joy through-out the years, good friends and card sharks at Brookhaven Manor in Ann Arbor and neighbors; Margaret, Steve, Kathy, Mildred and Aunt Annie with her care packages.  She was preceded in death by a son, Harvey Jr. in 1979, three sisters; Lillian Gallagher, Violet Sargee, Eunice Naas, three brothers; Arthur, Herbert and Bud.

Grace Olsen is at McWilliams Funeral Home – Alpena where friends may call on Friday from 5:00-8:00 PM and on Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church from 2:00 PM until the time of the funeral service at 3:00 pm with Rev.
