Ninth arrest in alleged Christian militia plot
All of the suspects in an alleged plot to touch off an uprising against the government are in custody.
The last of nine suspects has been jailed after a search in rural southern Michigan, where he is said to have surrendered.
The eight men and one woman are allegedly part of a Christian militia based in Michigan. Eight were arrested in weekend raids in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio.
Prosecutors say FBI agents moved quickly against the group because its members were planning an attack sometime in April. The group, which calls itself Hutaree, allegedly planned to kill a police officer and then slaughter scores more by bombing the officer’s funeral.
According to an indictment, the group began military-style training in the forests of Michigan, learning how to shoot guns and make and set off bombs.

Huh…fanatical religious discontents with bombs and guns wanting to take our government down…sound like any other group that may have been causing us trouble lately?
Why is it always religion? These people supposedly follow and shape their lives after a supreme being that teaches universal, unconditional love…..yet they always seem to be the first to act irrationally, and violently.

You wanna elaborate on the first part of your comment? As for your second part, some use religion as a reason for doing despicable things, most use it as an inspiration for doing good.
Why not focus on the idiots themselves?

Yes..I can elaborate…Taliban. As for the second part, these days it’s ALWAYS a religious group that is causing trouble. Whether it’s pro-lifers, cross burning racists, people unsatisfied with the government (like in this story), anti-gay groups, legions of pedophile priests, suicide bombers, to hampering helpful scientific progress because of some belief about stem cells……religion has become a political movement instead of a personal philosophy. I say believe what you want to believe, but it’s wrong to act to extremes based on those beliefs no matter how noble you may think the cause is. We are all entitled to our own systems, methods, and avenues of spiritual and political ideals.
I know that most people do just that, but I’m pointing out the fact that it is these types of groups that are making life miserable for alot of people. Religion should teach love for all people, not intolerance for those who don’t believe the same as you do. And that is what people like these Militia terrorists forget. You can’t focus on them without also focusing on what they believe..because without their extreme Christian ideals they probably wouldn’t have been compelled to plan these atrocities. Thankfully they were stopped before they went through with any of it.

This is assuming the story is correct and the government isn’t lying….
BTW- I hope these people are afford the same constitutional rights that the Muslim terrorist are given. I hope they are provided bibles ( or whatever reading material they desire) designated prayer times, appropriate meals( should they have some sort of religious dietary needs)chaplins visiting and, of course, court appointed lawyers.
ALSO- if these groups are doing what they accused of…its certain not “christian” so lets just drop that right now. “Extreme christians”( any christian really) don’t run around looking to kill people because they believe differently. This is not about “christians”..extreme or otherwise. I might add that while this group has been defined as being “christian” by the press, its interesting to note how the same press bends-over backward to avoid defining the real enemy as “Islamic” or Muslim.

Well said, commonsense.

This group does call themselves “Christian”. It is not the press just calling them Christian.
Yes they will be afforded the same constitutional rights that everyone is allowed in this great country- no matter race or religion.
The Islamic religion does not condone violence or acts or terrorism either. The Muslim Terrorists are extremists, the same as the Christian extremists in this militia group, the Christians who bomb abortion clinics, or the Christian group who holds hate signs (directed at the dead soldiers and their families) at funerals of soldiers who have died in Iraq and Afghanistan.

First off whomever is saying Islam is a religion of peace does not know what they are talking about. Sunni’s that follow Wahhabism is a pretty good example and there are millions of them. Lumping all those that follow Islam is like lumping all Christians together. There are many different sects and groups within each religion. All religions have extremists as do all political movements. We could talk about the extremists in the enviromental movement, animal rights movement, pro abortion movement and so on. Associating these 9 idiots/zellots with Christianity is like blaming Jodie Foster for John Hinckley Jr’s actions. I hope these people and everyone that associates with them are tried as Domestic Terrorists and put away for a long time.

But they ARE associated with Christianity. There is no getting around it. People get so uptight when it comes to saying that religion is the cause of alot of the worlds problems…but it’s a fact. Don’t believe me? Grab a history book and see what the main cause of 95% of the worlds atrocities for the last 10,000 years has been…religions fighting religions, religions spreading their “salvation”, people declaring war in the name of their religion…and it goes on and on. I’m not saying religion is bad, I’m saying it causes alot of problems when people don’t use common sense and follow blindly ideals based on ancient morals and loose interpretations put forth by politically driven people using religion for political gain.

Alot of people use things as an ends to their means. Millions were killed under Stalin who outlawed religion. I’m not sure what ancient morals your speaking of. I would not say Religion is the cause of a lot of the worlds problems. It does get most of the blame though. Here we are talking about 9 people, not indicidive of a whole religion. And whether you like it or not we are a Christian Nation, founded by very devout men who had the wisdom to make sure their religion was not imposed upon anyone. That is why we are a haven for all people, from all walks of life and areas of faith.

Actually I do know what I am talking about. Like I said, in any religion you have your extremists. Anyway that was not the point of my statement. The point was just what you chose to repeat in your own statement, you cannot classify any one group as terrorist or good or bad.
This article is not about Muslims against Christians or anything to do with Muslims at all. I just did not agree with what an above statement was implying. There is no need for bigotry.
Bottom line. I have faith in our Judicial System to give these people a fair trail and put them away for a long time, regardless of what religion, sex, or race they may be.

BTW- The group claims Hutaree means Christian Warrior.

saying your a christian and actually being a christian are 2 different things. actions speak louder than words.
Exactly. You could say that for any religion or group, even individuals. This group just calls themselves Christian Warriors. This group as well as the people leaving hate messages for certain party members or vandalising their offices are not being Christian at all. They need to sit back and ask…Is this what Jesus would do in this situation. Would he go out and kill a police officer and then bomb his funeral? Would Jesus yell words of hate at someone? Would Jesus hold so much hate in his heart? Not the Jesus I was taught about.

They may not be “acting” Christian. BUT they are Christians! You don’t get to pick and choose who is part of YOUR faith.
Sailrob- no- they are not Christains if their goal is to kill innocent people to make a political point.

Susanne,
They most CERTAINLY are Christians! Just because they embarrass you and your religion doesn’t mean you get to pick and choose who is in YOUR religion. Like having a crazy uncle nobody wants to acknowledge. He would still be your uncle, you don’t get to pick and choose. Are terrorist Muslims not Muslims because the rest of their religion doesn’t agree with what they are doing? No they are STILL MUSLIMS! Are child molesters in the Catholic Church not Catholic? Get a grip and get off of that horse I think it’s getting tired.

sailorob,
maybe u dont understand what christianity is. it’s not about what church u may belong to, it’s about accepting Jesus Christ as you personal Lord and Saviour. Its about living your life according to God’s will, in a way that is pleasing to Him, not that of any man.
anybody can call themselves a christian, but a true christian believes that God is the Judge, Jury, and the one who will dole out the punishment.
to use your own example, i could tell ppl that im a member of your family, but that doesnt make it true.
i’ll say again…actions speak louder than words.

If accepting Jesus into your heart makes you a Christian then these people are indeed Christians. Misguided from the “loving god fearing types” but Christians non the less. Thats why they are called Radicals!!! But just because they are Radicals doesn’t mean they aren’t Christians. They just don’t hold to your ideals of “being” Christian.

Well said Sailorob.

Amen, Sailor Rob! I also find it amusing when people who completely disregard the teachings of Jesus claim to be Christians. They talk about “personal responsibility” in code for taking away social programs that feed, house, and clothe the poor. They regard the poor, of which Jesus was a member, as suspicious, parasitic opportunists who are poor as a result of character flaws. These “Christians” wrap themselves up in religiosity while using the New Testament as a door mat…kind of like how they use the U.S. Constitution.
The Hutaree is a byproduct of the incendiary political climate that has erupted in this country after the 2010 election. There are a lot of people who honestly believe the President is the Antichrist, and there are no small number of politicians eager to fan the flames for personal political gain at the expense of the country.
These people are WACKOS. Going out in the woods and playing army is one thing, but to then seek to create a tragic event that will allow them to shoot REAL human targets? Wow. I’m just speechless.
Exactly which “Christians” are you talking about? What is wrong with personal responsibility? I know it’s a lot easier to keep the poor under the boot of govt forcing them to keep coming back begging for more. 45 years since the Great Society was supposed to end poverty, how well has that worked? The broken record of the Democrat party keeps playing on and on. Just think of all those selfish Christian charities out there that give food, clothing and shelter to the poor. I kind of wish they would all stop for a while so the saoirse’s of the world could see the contributions they provide. BTW which part of the Constitution mandates individuals to buy a service at their own expense or face prosecution?
The Hutaree are a very small band of radicals that have nothing to do with the mainstream Christianity. Like the crazies at Westboro they deserve to be shunned by society and imprisoned for their crimes. I assume Saiorse, you meant 2008 elections and while I don’t think Barry is the Antichrist, he is doing his best to destroy this country. I don’t know if that is his plan or not, I doubt it because I don’t think he is smart enough to figure out how to do it. I forget how supportive you were of George Bush and how you condemned those “politicians eager to fan the flames for personal political gain at the expense of the country.” Hey wasn’t Obama one of those politicians?

Not smart enough????He’s a lawyer, isn’t he??? Have way too many of these already. And lobbyist!!!

it just amazing how a story about a radical militia group gets turned on obama. and before you call me a liberal.if being open to new ideas and concepts makes me a liberal thank you Obama was left with a huge mess by george w bush and chaney that it may take 20 years to clean up and that include help from all sides.

Thanks, Huronraised. I did in fact mean the 2008 elections.
I find it strange that you seem to think I’m denigrating Christian charities. What part of my post led you to think I am critical of Christianity in any way? I simply pointed out that LOTS of people who don’t follow the teachings of Jesus call themselves Christians. People who feed the hungry, clothe and house the poor, and demand health care and education for children–THEY are Christians who really do practice their faith. People who dress up like GI Joe and go off into the woods to play army while plotting to kill lawmakers and law enforcement officers, all the while calling themselves Christians, need to actually READ the Gospels, as do people who demand cuts to vital social services, the closure of homeless shelters, and denial of health care to ALL those in need.
Yes, I am a Liberal, as was Jesus. As much as I detested George W. Bush, I never called him the Antichrist, never supported people forming militias to fight his “tyranny”, never made a phone call threatening to kill Republican lawmakers and their families, never supported politicians who talked about “reloading” after a policy defeat or put targets over the district maps of politicians who needed to “be taken out”. That, my friend, is fanning the flames “for personal political gain at the expense of the country.” It’s despicable.
And by the way, it’s the “Democratic Party”, but I’m sure that’s what you meant.
No I meant Democrat, because there is nothing democratic about the Democrat party. Sorry I guess I took some parts of your post as a knock on Christian Conservatives and the lefts favorite target the “religious right”. I was pointing out that most charities are faith based and they do more to “feed, house, and clothe the poor” then anyone else. If that was not what you meant then I appologize. I agree with the assesment of this group as a bunch of crazy GI Joe wannabe’s, they are pathetic. Calling these people Christians is like calling Charles Manson a deep thinker. While it may be true, it’s not the whole story.
Are you taking those liberal talking points right from the White House? Funny how the Democrats never had a problem with all the threats to Bush. Funny how when Barry talked about “getting in their faces” and “hitting them where it hurts” there was no one worrying about the “tone”. Were there not some Republican lawmakers threatened recently too? Is the left anti-semetic because an Obama supporter threatened Eric Cantor? Give me a break. When those reports started coming out I knew we had won the debate. Typical liberal tactics. When your losing play the race/victim card, that way anyone who is against you looks bad in the eyes of the unknowing. Sorry it’s not going to work this fall.

What does this story have to do with christian charities, or political parties?? It has nothing to do with it! It is about a group claiming to be a christian militia group.
