Misdemeanor warrant issued for Grayling City Manager
A misdemeanor warrant has been issued for City of Grayling Manager David Thayer.
Thayer is on paid administrative leave after being charged with 24 counts of violating the Social Security Act by allegedly disseminating Social Security numbers of citizens who were delinquent in paying their city property taxes.
Acting City Manager and Chief of Police, Doug Baum reported to county officers that Thayer was also under reporting to the City Council on budgetary issues. The charge indicates that it is illegal to provide false statements relating to finances by public officers.
Crawford County Sheriff Kirk Wakefield said the investigation alleges that Thayer delivered published reports to the City Council and members of the public that shows under reported expenditures and revenues.
Wakefield said the charge is punishable by 90 days in jail and/or $500 dollars in fines.
